DESCRIPTION:The 2019 AGM & Lunch will again be held on the River Thames at the Tamesis Sailing Club in West London. The club has good road and public transport links and perhaps the best thing about The Tamesis Club is that it’s a sailing club\, so the atmosphere is perfect for us.  All those who attended last year really enjoyed the day.  \nThis year we are extending the social aspects of the day with afternoon tea.\nThe Commodore and Committee hope that you as many members as possible will come along. \nThe AGM and Lunch are open to all\, Member or not. \nBroad timeline for the day:\n1030 Committee Meeting\n1200 Annual General Meeting\n1300 Lunch\n1400ish Presentation of Annual Trophies\n1600ish Afternoon Tea – Bring a cake\, traybake or similar if you can \nTea and coffee will be available\, free of charge\, throughout the day.\nThe Tamesis Club bar will open from 10 am and their refreshments are competitively priced. \nLunch Booking\nThere is obviously no charge for the AGM but this year the lunch will £15 per head. DESCRIPTION:This event is a get-together of Fairey boats\, their owners\, former owners\, members and anyone with an interest in these iconic boats. \nThe AOA60 Rally will be held at Suffolk Yacht Harbour (SYH) from Friday 24 to Monday 27 August 2018\, followed by the AOA60 East Coast Cruise in Company from Tuesday 28 to Friday 31 August 2018. The AOA60East Coast Race will be part of the West Mersea Regatta on Saturday 1 September 2018. \nPlease read the details below and let us know as soon as possible about your plans to attend using this proforma.\nThe events are open to anyone with an interest in the Fairey yachts and we hope as many AOA Members and their friends as possible will join us\, whether by boat (N051o59.4’ E001o16.6’) or by road (IP10 0LN). \nWe hope you will be able to us for a few days but the Saturday and Sunday are designed to support day visits for those that can’t.  You will be able to get some time on the water\, catch up with old friends and join in the evening socials. \nSYH cranes\, hoists and launching ramp will be available throughout this period on weekdays. Self-launching down the ramp is available over the weekend. AOA60will be based in the East Anglian Sailing Trust Community Centre (EAST). The Harbourmaster has provisionally reserved up to 6 berths at preferential rates for the weekend. SUMMARY:OGA Race Brightlingsea
DESCRIPTION:An invitation from Keith Watson of the Old Gaffer’s Association (OGA) for us to join in their East Coast Race at Brightlingsea on 14 – 16 July 2017  – not to be confused with our own East Coast Rally at West Mersea on 26 August 2017.  The OGA have for some time now had events involving Bermudan rigged boats and they are very keen for us to be represented.  They have said that if there are three or more Atalantas taking part\, they will award a separate trophy for the first Atalanta home.  Further details etc are elsewhere in this newsletter.  Please support this inaugural opportunity if at all possible.  If it’s half as good as last year’s event (when it was flat calm and more of a drift)\, it’ll still be a great day out on the water. \nThe Old Gaffers Association has welcomed classic Bermudan entries for many years and all the races organised on the East Coast have a specific class and prizes for Bermudan rigged boats. Classic Bermudans are those designed prior to 1960. \nThe event starts during Friday with the arrival of competitors at Brightlingsea\, berths are booked beforehand to ensure that there is sufficient space for all. Later in the day we have race registration and an informal get together at our hosts: Colne Yacht Club. \nThe race\, which in good weather features courses of approximately 20 miles\, starts on Saturday morning preceded by a briefing ashore for all competitors. We have prize giving late in the afternoon to ensure everyone has the opportunity to complete the course. This is followed by an evening meal. \nOn Sunday there is a small open boat event in the River Colne.\nSince 1963 this has been an exceptionally well attended event\, attracting both OGA members and non-members\, including many of the local smacks\, and we hope that this year is going to be equally popular.  \nFull details in respect of the Old Gaffers Association East Coast Race 2017\, including entry forms\, race instructions etc will be published shortly. DESCRIPTION:Open invitation to a land based event with Mike and Sheila Dixon in Market Harborough. \nThis will be a very informal get together (think hot weather – shorts and T shirt; cold weather – shorts\, T shirt and a fleece).  You get the idea I’m sure.\n–	for members to talk about boats\n–	a chance for those who might be interested to view the ongoing restoration of A1 “Atalanta” (about two miles from Mike and Sheila’s)\n–	a chance (if anyone’s truly desperate!) to have a look at a canal narrow boat\n–	food (a substantial cold buffet – not a BBQ) and drinks (hot and cold [alcoholic and not])\n–	a couple of laptops ready for people to show their pictures by plugging in their memory sticks \nOther possibilities are negotiable – auction anybody? – anybody willing to speak on a particular topic (like the Hereford Forums)? – anything else? \nIf you wish further information (such as “where’s Market Harborough?” – clue – about as from the sea as you can get in the UK)\, please contact us either by ‘phone or email – details in the Yearbook – or using the RSVP below.   \nPlease RSVP – we need to have a good idea of who is coming primarily for catering purposes.
