Summary

A sound, extremely well equipped Fairey Atalanta 26 on a modern 6 wheel trailer allowing distant  and foreign cruising without the time and exposure required to sail to your chosen cruising ground, but needing an internal repaint.

Currently located in a barn near High Wycombe, where she has been stored every winter since 2012.

Hydraulic keel retraction simplifies single handed sailing in restricted waters.

Over the past fourteen years, the owner has spent significantly on maintaining and improving the structure and gear of the boat but ignored the interior, until in 2022 the boat interior was  stripped with the intention of a complete redecoration.

Unfortunately, ill health has brought this to a halt and so Jaunty is offered with much of her interior stripped to bare wood and needing re-finishing.

History

I have owned Jaunty since late 2010, since when she has provided many happy holidays and weekends for myself and family.

I know of no other boat design which would accommodate three adults and five admittedly small children to have a comfortable weekend of small voyages and sand dune adventures and yet be trailed to Brest for a “Festival of the Sea” and then single handed down the west coast of France.
One crossed the Atlantic with a family of four aboard!

Jaunty has been sailed most summers between 2012 and 2022 and  stored in a barn each winter.

Highlights have been:
2013, trailed from Home to Falmouth in about 8 hours and cruising back to Emsworth in approximately 8 weeks visiting every creek and harbour with a pub including reaching Totnes, the limit of navigation on the River Dart, beautiful.
2016, trailed across the channel to join the  Fêtes Maritimes de Brest 2016. That was followed by the amazing sail in company to Temps fête sur Douarnenez. Then, six weeks or so were spent along the Biscay coast of France, visiting creeks, rivers and small harbours, a week or more in the Gulf of Morbihan, a cruise up the Vilaine before being lifted out at Aral Nautique and trailing home without worries of crew etc. for the return voyage.

During 2020 and 2021 we removed her keels for servicing, epoxying and painting both the keels and the keel boxes, hence the YouTube note “afloat again after a number of years renovation”.

Retuned to  full commission until 2022 when Jaunty took part in the Uffa 50 event and the cruise in company which followed.

Late 2022 saw the start of an interior tidy and re-paint which has not been completed.

Unfortunately old age and  deteriorating health have meant that Jaunty was not launched in 2023, 2024 or 2025 and now, for health reasons I need to find a caring owner for my much loved boat.

The Hull and Keels

On purchase it was recognised that the deck needed attention, but the pressures of business were such that I decided, thankfully,  to have this done professionally by Alan Staley, past President of the Wooden Boat Builder’s Association, see the first three photographs.
All deck fittings, chain plates, portholes and rubbing strakes were removed, decks made good where necessary and the entire deck was sheathed in glass cloth and epoxy resin.
At the same time, the rudder was rebuilt by Alan’s team and the hydraulic cylinders re-furbished.

Keels are hydraulically activated by electric pump with manual backup, new pump etc 2021

Keels removed, grit blasted and epoxy coated 2021

Keels have individual sacrificial anodes. However the rubbing strakes around one keel were lost in 2022, and Jaunty has never had keel slot seals in its recent history
