When i arrived i hoped to pick up a bouy in Stangate creek.
The marked bouys were too big. So being a wuss i rang the marina and headed up the Medway.
But no sooner than i went around the first bend and the weather turned cold wet and windy. So i bought my time it was not yet high tide at Chatham marina and i thought the weather would pass.
As i got closer to the marina there were plenary of bouys so i picked up one of these. The cover photo for this blog is the view in the morning.
I am really sorry to create a clash in our calendar but I have just registered Mary in https://www.tradboatfestival.com/
But I am not often in that neck of the woods.
I am yet to hear back as to whether I have missed any clause of acceptability but otherwise a plan is forming.
West Mersey to Chatham. I was quite nervous about this particularly the spitway but i had 1.6m Clacton-on-sea and measured a pretty consistent 3m when going over. Once past that I was a nice sail as i here was little traffic and the weather was good. There was a large ship at anchor and another on the move. i tucked behind the one on the move and downed sails. The Montgomery lurks ominously as i went passed . i had been spoiled by West Mersey and expected a bouys
So to go back to Tollesbury. The problem with Tollesbury is the public transport is scarce. So to catch the tide i i had to cycle from Colchester I am lucky the bus replacement bus driver allowed me to put the bike in the luggage box. Unfortunately cycling for 1:30 hrs is not conducive to carrying much in the way of food or clothes. i managed to get to Tollesbury in time to do some food shopping and catch the tide out to West Mersey.
Lovely evening photo of Mary heading down to Orwell towards Felixstowe. Let’s hope the weather this summer is better than the last. It has got off to a good start anyway.

Brilliant – well done for getting underway in the good weather. Look forward to catching up you and Mary in a couple of weeks.
And Mary is looking great !
Cheers

Mary’s progress is being followed by others. St Katherine’s were delighted to welcome you.
