Left Queensborough at about 6am. too early. But a lovely morning.
Low tide was at 7:30. so I was pushing against the tide. It was not kind to the boat but i estimated the distance at about 40Nm so was doing math in my head and considering back out plans.
It was a still morning so as i got to low tide i was basically “whited out”. I could not tell sea from sky. An awesome sight. Though I was glad to be going away from the sun.
As the flow tide grew so did my speed by the time i reached Queen Elizabeth Bridge i was clocking 8kts.
The Ports of London Authority publishes a guide for pleasure craft with VHS channels and crossing points. This gave me comfort around the commercial shipping. Adrian and Susan had pointed out the overspills and once past Tilbury i started to see these.
Once past the tidal barrier i felt i had entered the city. From here on in the river is curtained by high rises.
By this time i was a couple of hours ahead of time and made the first lock into St Kats. To a nice welcome and a dock full of Europeans.
