Still no further on – can’t get the gearbox from the hyds off yet as there’s a pesky sur clip stopping me. Planning to take the prop off and see if I can pull the whole propshaft forward but it’s not looking promising. Next step is to cut through the gearbox – but that risks a shortened stern tube where I’ll need to mount a sterngland for the new Aquadrive set up.
Separately, does anyone have a spare rigging tripod that I could acquire!? Keen to cut down on the mad amount i am spending on lifting and lowering into the water each year alongside a mast set up… I’ll clearly need to get a new trailer at some point if i am dipping mine in, but in 50 years time am sure the business case will stack up!
Thanks Nick – said gearbox has now been ‘Dremel’d’ [sic] off with a judicious side of brute force and a metal drill bit. Need to tidy up the end so that I can attach a stern gland . I hacksawed through the propshaft as the prop and shaft had become one (to misquote the Spice Girls).
Progress, but slowly!
Steve
The shaft set up on Colchide seems … interesting!
I hope you are making progress.
On the shroud tripods if you can’t find a donor having them made might be the best option. I believe Chris Green (in the Yearbook) had a set made in stainless recently so might be worth contacting about costs etc.
Cheers
Nick
