I have had an update from Dennis Clarke on the progress of Julietta’s restoration.
As often happens timescales for the work planned extended significantly but Julietta was finally prety much ready for the water as can be seen in the header. And disaster! The mast collapsed whilst being lowered – it had rotted from the inside out. It had been epoxied and then rotted from the inside.
So Dennis has passed on this warning –
‘Be Warned. Wood needs to breathe’
-
A59 Top of the mast broken. Lowering it to scarf in a new piece exposed the extent of the damage
-
A59 The mast collapses – at least whilst still on shore
-
A59 A mast in pieces
-
A59 Hollow masts shouldn’t be like this
-
A59 Rot at the spreaders -rotten from the inside, not much left
-
A59 Disaster – rot at the spreaders
-
A59 Ready for the water in 2017
