The windows on Helene were very cloudy and needed replacing. There is a lot of excellent information in bulletins about how to replace them so I got stuck in. The only variation to established practice I adopted was the use of closed cell sealing tape in place of the more usual butyl tape. Slightly more expensive but so worth it. No mess, excellent seal. Highly recommended.

A124 The old window was used to create a plug in plaster of paris on a plywood base.
-
A124 The plugs were made out of plaster of paris. I used silk fabric between the plug and perspex to ease removal but this left a very fine ‘weave’ on some of the windows.
-
A124 Perspex is heated in the over for the correct time (depends on grade of perspex) and then placed over the plug.

A124 Fitting long bolts through the frames to compress the tape to allow the short machine screws to be fitted.
-
A124 The bronze frames with the closed cell tape stuck on. So much cleaner than mastic.
-
A124 Longer bolts were used around the frame to initially compress the tape so that the correct (short) bolts could be inserted.

A124 It looks really neat without any mess to clear up. And it is waterproof!
