The Fulmar 20ft

Due to the great success of the Atalanta, Fairey designed a smaller 20 ft sailing cruiser of similar construction to the Atalanta 26 and called it the Fulmar. Fulmars had a new hull shape and had no after cabin.  The clever internal design gave two full sized berths and two quarter berths under the cockpit seats. Good stability was achieved with a single lifting keel mounted on the centre line where the main bulkhead supports the mast overhead.  The keel and lifting mechanism were a copy of the port keel assembly on the Atalanta 26.

The Fulmar is easily handled and a good sea boat.  With a displacement of around 1 ton, trailing and launching are easy. 

The first boat was completed in 1958 and this example – F23 Dodo was built in early 1960.
