Very rare Fairey Marine Pixie Tender for sale. Open to reasonable offers.

Built circa 1950 as a tender to the Fairey Marine Atalanta class yachts using the vacuum hot moulded plywood techniques first developed for the construction of Aircraft.

A little like a Canadian canoe, the tender can be rowed or paddled and can accomodate two adults or one adult and two children.  The tender is easily man portable and is designed to break into two halves which nest neatly inside one another, enabling it to be easily transported on a car troof rack or as it was designed to on the coach roof of a yacht.  The tender can be reassembled in under a minute using the tongue and groove joint combined with keel hooks and eyes and a cam clamps arrangment make it completely watertight.

The tender comes with the original detachable skeg keel, rowlocks, oars, and seat.  Two additional seats have been made in the same style as the original and a spare set of oars are also available.  Some restoration work has been carried out to the tongue and groove joint as can be seen from the pictures (Ed – on their way) but the joint is completely watertight when assembled.  The tender was left to me some fifty years ago by a relative, who I believe used be a delivery skipper for Fairey Marine, delivering their yachts to their new owners.

The tender has been used to sail the length the both Llangollen and Kennet & Avon canals as well as the river Thames and river Hamble.  Equally at home on the sea in sheltered waters it was also used extensively in the past in Cornwall and in and around Cardigan bay in Wales. The tender is currently located in Timsbury Hampshire near to Southampton UK.  Buyer would have to collect or arrange for a courier to collect.
