I note the comments that Richard has made in the latest news letter. Sugar Plum has a 45 amp hour cranking battery and a 75 amp hour domestic leisure battery. Both these are ten year old or more. I would suggest that for good battery heath over the winter the best thing is to partially discharge them every 6-8 weeks and then recharge them. Just charging them in itself is not as good as a discharge/charge cycle.. I also have a battery condition tester that is brilliant as it is possible to check the condition of the battery and be sure it is holding a charge. A note of caution though, a cell can collapse in a battery at any time. Once again is worth having a battery condition tester as it is easy to diagnose a poor starting engine if caused by a failing battery rather then chasing a fault.
