Over the years how we use the website has changed and is still changing.  But it has value to the club.  I want to highlight this as a warning against giving content away gratis.  Also to offer an idea of how we can make use of this for the associations goals.

Should we offer an ad service for non-logged in viewers?

Asking AI for rough calculations which I will add as a response.  But I basically knew the result.  1000 “impressions” is about £6.  This is peanuts considering my single post on Portofino has a sum total of 936 views.  Probably mostly me 🙂  But that is our £6.

I also think there are a couple of other benefits.  IMHO (in my humble opinion) it will incentivize posting good content.  Not only to share but to gain hard cash for the association.  It also encourages joining as you don’t get ads.  But also it helps younger members understand this business model in practical terms.

AI assures me we can have control over the ads.  So only ads that are related to our interests.

We continue to post teasers on social media to encourage people to click through to the website where we gain the extra value?

      AI summary:

Sure! Here’s a concise proposal tailored to the webmaster:

We’re proposing to implement Google AdSense for non-logged-in visitors on public pages. Ads will be non-intrusive, contextually relevant, and GDPR-compliant, ensuring quality and privacy for our members. Setup is straightforward with WordPress plugins like Advanced Ads, and conditional logic ensures ads appear only for logged-out users. With ~10,000 annual visitors, this could generate roughly €90/year in passive income — a small but meaningful boost to our budget, with minimal maintenance required. Let’s discuss the technical steps or any concerns!
