All over for another year. And the general is view that the 2017 event was a good one.

All four boats scheduled to take part arrived safely in time for the race. Jane Stearn and family in Bluster, Richard James and Dom Dobson in Colchide, Alistair in Atalanta Mary and Nick in Helene both sharing Bernard Marshall as crew.  Mike Dixon, John Ingleby, Ian Pollard and Peter Keightley joined Atalanta Mary and Helene for the race.

For the Supper, made possible through the hard work and patience of Sarah Thorley, we were joined by Martin and Janet Bennet, Dave Allen, Mariana Ingleby, Sheila Dixon, Carol Moss and Mike Thorley.  The fish and chips were complemented by vegetables from Sarah’s garden and an excellent array of puddings, cheese and biscuits, tea and coffee. Very many thanks to Sarah for all her hard work.

Congratulations go to Colchide as a very worthy winner of the Atalanta Cup making good use of the light winds.

Leaving Levington Marina – Colchide, Atalanta Mary and Helene in company.

    Enjoying the sail!

On the Piles at West Mersea despite removal of the necessary rails and sliding shackles – Dom’s ingenuity with an anchor chain and fenders saved the day.

Truly great to be there even though it was just for the Saturday.  My thanks to Richard and Dom for their hospitality on board “Colchide”, to Nick for the considerable general organisation and to Mike and Sarah for the delightful evening at the Scout Hut.

And not least, to the owners and crews of the four boats who made the trip to West Mersea.  Whilst not a record, having the four boats there demonstrated that the decline in numbers has been halted and possibly just reversed.

Peter Pangbourne, photographer for the event, took these photographs on the day.

These carry Peter’s copyright although he would be delighted to share them if you contact him at the address shown.

      THE WINNER!
