It just shows you can’t win if you recommend something, restaurant, pub, MOT centre or indeed an insurance company !
I think a few people have turned their backs on GJW since that article last year in Yachting Monthly when a yacht got clobbered when a neighbouring boat broke its mooring and GJW refused to payout on the insurance of the wayward boat.
So sticking MY neck out – go for SAGA.
Doug OdgersParticipantThanks very much, Dominic, Richard and Mike.
I will proceed with caution.
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantRichard, That’s really useful.
Many thanks,
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantHi Dominic,
Must be something wrong with my computer, it seems you replied, but I got nothing.
If there was something I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t mind having another go.
Thanks,
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantRichard, Apologies I was getting my Richards mixed up, to many years of putting tributyltin on the bottom of boats.
I am sure we will meet someday, perhaps the next AGM.
Regards,
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantHi Nick,
Exceloent guidance.
Many thanks,
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantHi Richard,
Many thanks for that guidance.
A90 is still in one piece since you inspected her – my refurbishment efforts have yet to destroy her !
Many thanks,
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantThanks Nick,
You have also encouraged me to drop the pressure plates and have a look at them.
When you say supporting them from above, how is that done?
Any ecouragement will be gratefully received.
Doug OdgersParticipantThanks Richard, that seems to make mine look correct.
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantThanks Dominic and everyone.
Must indeed be correct as last Friday I got the trailer back up to Sherborne, although shouted at in the village of Broadmaine, as a passerby thought the jockey wheel was touching the ground – well it was, what’s to shout about!
Now talking to my ‘hook’ man about getting a higher ‘ball hook’ on my little Vauxhall Corsa.
Again, thanks all.
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantMy problem , don’t have sufficient app. Space to join you, have a good meeting. Doug.
Doug OdgersParticipantNick, do you still use that Citroen and does it self level when towing ?
Doug OdgersParticipantWho’s AOA Keymaster ?
Doug OdgersParticipantDoug of Dorset, here and READY !
Doug OdgersParticipantAbout time an AOA meeting got down to us in Dorset !
Excellent, I’ll be there.
Thanks,
Doug OdgersDoug OdgersParticipantFraser, well done.
Although A90 Received this level of refurbishment by Dominic Dobson, the previous owner, as a relative newcomer to Atalantas seeing your comments and photos is an education and a guide for my burgeoning maintenance regime.
Thanks, Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantWell, tea & sandwiches are a problem, but where now to fry an egg ?!
Doug OdgersParticipantDominic, great to hear from you and your good advice – I wil now proceed with care !
Thanks,
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantMike & Nick,
Thanks very much for taking the time to give me such detailed guidance.
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantLaziness now set aside and have navigated myself around AIA’s technical papers.
HOWEVER 2 questions now remain:
1. What height should she be chocked to remove keels?
2. Direction to a source of used beer kegs ?
Doug OdgersParticipantRichard,
Thanks, that’s what I shall do then.
Have just got back from getting the sleepers.
Once again, thsnks.
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantHi Nick,
Thanks so much for that good guidance.
Off now to get some sleepers,
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantMany thanks. ‘Fairey Mary’,
That 2p was worth a lot to me and my ruminations as I draw nearer to making a decision on getting an Atalanta. – but have a boat to sell first.
You have really put things into perspective for me dispelled my fears about topsides and coachroof maintenance.
Thanks,
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantThanks Nick, photos have put things into perspective.
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantThanks Mike, that is encouraging

I suspect you’ll sell way before I am ready, i.e. until after I have sold my Frances 26.
Would of course be interested to know how much she goes for so I can use her as a benchmark.
Regards,
Doug
Doug OdgersParticipantThanks Nick,
Yes it would make a perfect excuse to visit the Suffolk area again.
I will hang on a little while to see if a closer opportunity arises
By the way I have done my first navigation of the web site and found it intuitively designed, enabling the IT illiterate (ME) to use with ease and more importantly, with cofidence.
Thanks,
Doug
