Still good to hear your interest in Atalanta’s has not diminished. Sadly I must now sell Hiran. Colin

Have a pole set up the length of the boat at the height of the raised horse, have good stout covers the whole length and leave both ends open to allow free movement of air.  If you wish to do any work aboard during the winter, cover the cockpit area with builders transparent cover.

Laminate with inner and outer laminates larger and inner ones diminishing and as Chis mentions a solid backing inside overlapping the repair.

Do you think you may get her to the 60th?

Your quite right Chris, a solid backing for any opening of the hull or deck is very necessary.

    Murray,

She’s looking really good and thank you for reminding members who have just forgot their subs in these busy times.

It would be good to see you in the UK but I cannot promise a Chicken Casserole, though I can still remember my crew at West Mersea, it seems an age ago.

It is the 60th Anniversary of the launch of A1, the prototype for the Atalanta, at West Mersea this year and we hope a good crown will attend.

A95 is ashore and just covered, you are welcome to come and measure, it is a fair distance but quite close to the Dartford Crossing at Erith Yacht Club, DA8 2AD.

Give me a call if you wish to come.

Have you called Jane yet?  Colin A95

If you make contact with Jane owner of A183, details in the register, she has taken out the boards but still has them and would be happy to talk to you.

there are plenty of Oxalic Acid suppliers on the internet, I checked after I sent a reply.  You should not need too much as it is better to dilute and apply several times, you don’t want too much bleaching.

Good luck and I hope to see the before and after results on the website.

    Robbie,

Have you tried oxalic acid, it does a good job on stained wood.  Some years ago I obtained some from a local chemist but a visit to the computer may give you more options.

Good to hear news of A146 and it would be great if you could visit the UK and make contact. Colin A95

I made up an emergency tiller some years ago, it is only a pole that fits over the forward end with a pin to drop in that secures it.  It is kept above the S’ board bunk.  When I visit “Hiran” again I will take photo’s.  It has not been used in an emergency, but seems to control the rudder.  The length is important as it is used in the confines of the rear cabin and would mean an open hatch.  If there was a real problem I am sure that an open hatch would be worth the suffering.

in reply to: Has anyone else spotted the atalanta ? #10562

Looks like our Vice Commodre’s A183, with the boom up on the topping lift, couldn’t see the mast top, if there is a small radar reflector up there it is “Bluster”

    Derrick,

Give me a call Tuesday evening if you can to have a chat about the problem.

I never noticed it at Beale Park, but I know it is better the right way, I did the same in 1984.

in reply to: South East Laying Up Luncheon #10584

The newsletter has stated that the South East laying up Luncheon will take place at Erith Yacht Club and Doggetts on Sunday 13th November.  It had been cancelled at EYC because the club could not provide a meal.  The Doggetts option was cancelled because members had not responded in time to organise it.  However I am organising a gathering of members at EYC on Sunday 13th November and asking those who attend to bring their own food, accomodation and drinks will be available at the club and already several members will be arriving at 1200hrs.  Give me a call if you wish to attend and I can give you directions.  The post code is DA7 2AD.

    I hope to have a good gathering…………………Colin A95

in reply to: Varnished Transom #10314

When I replaced my skeg I used stainless bolts through the keelson and drilled out holes in the skeg to fit on the nuts before sealing and filling the holes.  I think I also added a couple of screwbolts as “Belt & Braces”.

A161 “Amber Ellen” was completely renovated by Adrian Rivett over 3 years from about 1992, during the refit I recall that he diagonally strip laminated the complete transom from a centre line to the sides, it looked very attractive.  He also did the same effect on the fore bulkhead in the cockpit.  The whole boat was varnished with Coppercoat antifoul.  He sold her in 1995 and she has changed hands a couple of times since then.  Sadly the current owner does not appear as a member.

I think that Faireys’ probably thought a bucket would be adequate, even though they installed toilets.  It seems to me that you have it all covered right down to the milk container, what would we do without them?……………….Colin
